In April 2022, Janine B. Tucker ‘81 and Ira B. Schwartz, Ph.D. ‘80 established the Janine Tucker and Ira Schwartz Endowed Graduate Award in Mathematics through a generous donation to the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) to recognize and support outstanding graduate students in the Department of Mathematics.
Janine B. Tucker ‘81 and Ira B. Schwartz, Ph.D. ‘80 are a dual-alumni couple who first met as graduate students in the Department of Mathematics. They established the Janine Tucker and Ira Schwartz Endowed Graduate Award in Mathematics to assist the mathematics department’s endeavors to differentiate itself as a top-notch department and attract bright new minds. Both Tucker and Schwartz fondly think of the mathematics department and continue to apply their learned skills in their occupations. Gifts to this fund will support early-stage graduate students who demonstrate a high level of excellence in mathematics. This fund shall also be used to help bring about racial and gender diversity in the mathematics department.
