| To honor the memory of Francesco Barone, the Barone family, represented by Patrizia Barone '78, established the Francesco Barone Scholarship in 2003 to provide an annual scholarship/fellowship for an undergraduate or graduate chemistry student with academic promise and demontrated financial need. Unable to finish high school due to World War II, Mr. Barone worked on a variety of odd jobs as a teenager to support his family of four and then went to the United States in search of a better life for his family. Mr. Barone was a very giving man who believed that "education is the key to success - something that no one can take away from you." He was most proud when his three children received college degrees from the University of Maryland. |
