Dr. Marybeth Joy Drechsler Sharp Memorial Fund
Grieving the loss of our friend, colleague, and classmate, Dr. Marybeth Joy Drechsler Sharp (1978-2018), after a courageous 19-month battle with triple negative metastatic breast cancer, we are establishing this scholarship in her memory. She left a lasting legacy at Maryland through her work with College Park Scholars. "Students loved her energy and passion; she challenged them to be and do their best," said Martha Baer of UMD's Leadership and Organizational Change, former associate director of Scholars and Marybeth's supervisor for five years. From former students whose lives were made better by her role as an educator and high school friends who appreciated her friendship, to colleagues inspired by her passion for student learning, Marybeth left an indelible mark on the world.
The Dr. Marybeth Joy Drechsler Sharp Memorial Fund will provide merit-based, annual travel awards for graduate or doctoral students in the Student Affairs Program in the College of Education for students to attend conferences or travel for research opportunities.
