Robert Reisse M.S.’70, Ph.D ’76 and Dana Reisse, MLS ’73 established the Andrew Reisse Endowed Teaching Award in July 2020 to support student teachers in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) who are participants of the Student Initiative Courses (STICs) program. This merit-based award allows students to lead their own courses under the guidance of a faculty advisor.
The Andrew Reisse Endowed Teaching Award honors the memory of Andrew Reisse '01, Robert and Dana Reisse’s son. Andrew Reisse was a bright computer scientist and engineer celebrated for his role in founding the Oculus VR and his many contributions to the video game industry. At the University of Maryland, Reisse launched his first software startup company at 19 years old with his friends and fellow computer science students Michael Antonov ’03 and Brendan Iribe. This fund was established to provide future Terps the opportunity to inspire and change the world, just as Andrew did.
