This scholarship has opened up doors to opportunity. At UMD I have become deeply involved with the entrepreneurial community. My educational experience has encouraged me pursue a career in the tech industry. To have the support to attend this school has helped me gain opportunities to develop leadership and business skills. These skills have opened doors for study abroad experiences and two internships. I interned with TableTribes, a DC startup, and Facebook. These opportunities have helped me grow as an individual and professional.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
The Smith School’s Center for Social Value Creation, taught me how business can be used as a tool to make a positive impact. When the world is more open, connected, and empathetic, great things can happen. Understanding can help support equality, open access to education, and offer others the opportunity to solve some of the world’s biggest problems. I’m excited for the future because I’ll have a role in making the world more open, connected, and empathetic. Working with TableTribes and Facebook offered me an opportunity to make these things a reality.

I had an incredible opportunity of interning with Facebook in Menlo Park, California. This experience was more than an internship; it was a life changing experience. I worked with Facebook's marketing team for eight weeks during the summer of 2015 and made a meaningful impact at the company. Since the experience, I have become more aware of how much I still have to learn and how I can play a role in connecting the world. I gained a lot of confidence from the experience and life long friends. I discovered his opportunity through the entrepreneurial atmosphere at UMD that inspired me to pursue a career in the technology industry. I will continue my career in the tech industry when I join Facebook full time as an Account Manager this fall.
