1 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I have not had many opportunities during my short time here at Maryland to really step into a leadership position, but currently I am taking charge of a small group within a FIRE research team. My group is working alongside several other small groups on designing autonomous unmanned vehicles that synchronize to perform certain tasks.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
The Herbert Rabin Endowed Scholarship in Engineering is providing me with much needed help in paying for my education. With the extra money, I can focus on research and learning about topics that really interest me instead of having a part time job.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose the University of Maryland because I am one of two people attending the school from my high school graduating class. Although I am content with my social life at home, I saw Maryland as an opportunity to reinvent myself and be whoever I wanted to be. My favorite part about being a terp are all the unique campus events that let me meet new people and experience new things.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I plan to make a positive difference in the world by working to develop new technologies to improve the quality of life around the world.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
I am a freshman in the Materials Science and Engineering program and I plan to graduate in the spring of 2019.
What is your Hometown?
I’m from Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. It’s a suburban area about an hour northwest of Philadelphia.
Tell us about your favorite class, extracurricular activity, academic opportunity, community involvement or another unique experience.
I have always loved building and fixing stuff and ENES 100 is a class centered on building and designing and designing a robot. It’s almost as if the class was made to satisfy my tinkering hobby.
