What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Smith Fellowship. Thanks to your generous support I am the first in my family to study at such a prestigious university outside India. Please allow me to apprise you of the gravity of the situation that I and my parents had been in before receiving this scholarship and the significance of this scholarship in my life. Prior to receiving admit from Smith, I had an offer from SMU Cox, Dallas, but without a significant scholarship. So, financing my MBA in USA was beyond reality for me and my parents.
My mother is a banker and my father is an engineer. But, both of them had retired few years ago. And, so despite many efforts we were unable to get a loan for my MBA. Just 10 days before I was supposed to travel to Dallas, I almost decided to cancel my admission considering the situation was out of our financial capacity. I knew the decision would psychologically hit me hard, especially after working tiresomely to reach till that point. But, I composed myself to be practical and decided to speak to my parents about my decision to back out.Miraculously on that very evening, I received a call from Kecia Hansard, MBA admissions from Smith school of Business who gave me the big news that I was offered an admission along with Smith Fellowship. Without any hesitation, I accepted the admissions offer at Smith School of Business.
I and my family remember that call as a miracle in our lives. It not only changed my decision, it changed my life. I can’t thank you enough for what you have done for me. I don’t know you in person. But, I remember you as a person who changed my life significantly. It would be honor to meet you in person.
May God Bless you!
