1 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED:
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
This scholarship has enabled me to enjoy my senior year more than I originally believed possible. In previous years, I have often had to return home on weekends to work, earning extra money to cover my own expenses during the week. This scholarship has helped with those expenses, and has allowed me to stay in College Park for most of the year. I have done things I never had a chance to, like taking multiple trips with friends into DC to visit sites like the Jefferson Memorial and the Smithsonian museums. I had always wanted to take full advantage of my geographic location before I graduated. Not to mention, I am thankful for financial support on behalf of my parents, who have the added burden of supporting multiple children who are attending college.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose the University of Maryland, first of all, because I am from Maryland and have been rooting for the Terps my whole life. In addition, the business school has a great reputation, so I wanted the chance to be part of a large, respected, well-recognized community.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I got into accounting because I always loved learning about fraud. Since I entered college, I have realized the important work that accountants do in creating meaningful financial data and ensuring it is correct. In addition, some accountants protect companies from dishonest individuals. It is incredibly useful to have the skill in order to make sure that businesses have accurate, and secure, information. I now have this skill, and I plan to use it to ensure the accuracy and honesty of company data, so as to protect others who do not have my skill from honest mistakes, as well as fraudulent activity.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
I am a member of the Class of 2015.
What is your Hometown?
My hometown is Kingsville, Maryland.
