What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
With the generosity from the Charlotte Newcombe Foundation and the Hillman Entrepreneurs Scholarship, I have been able to pursue my dreams of graduating from college at the prestigious University of Maryland in College Park. I am a 37 year old returning student and Early Childhood Education major with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Technology. My passion is for young children and improving our education system.
My plans are to continue to teach young children and open an Early Learning Center in the state of Maryland. Our mission will be to create success, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning for young children of all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. I look forward to helping many local families and children work towards a brighter future. I am one step closer to my goals, thanks to the care and support of the foundations.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I would make a positive difference in the world by starting businesses and local programs in my community that provide jobs, child care, and youth services. After being able to substantiate several successful companies and community outreach programs, I would look to expand my abilities. I would like to address issues of poverty and education in other countries as well, primarily in West Africa. I am a native of Sierra Leone and second generation in my family to arrive in the United States. I am no stranger to the effects that illness, poverty, war, and lack education and basic resources can have on a country and its people.
