6 SCHOLARSHIPs AWARDED:
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
This scholarship has meant a great deal to me and my family. It has enabled me to fully devote myself to my academics and the UMD community. In the past three years, I've been able to study abroad twice, have two internships, and be involved in dozens of students organizations--all because of the generosity and support of UMD alumni.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose to attend UMD because of it's vast array of extracurricular opportunities and outstanding academic trackrecond. Plus, the campus is amazing and instantly stole my heart.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
While my future career seems quite daunting at this present moment, I know I want to positively impact the world. I enjoy working on international issues, promoting global public health and gender equality. One day, I hope to work alongside individuals fighting against social oppression to create a healthy, active global community. I am passionate about breaking the silence surrounding less-well understood social issues such as human trafficking and gender-based violence. I see women being impacted by disease at larger proportions than men because of their physcial and social susceptibilities. I hope to help end these in the future. This summer, I am interning at the State Department, which will hopefully shine more light on my career options.
