What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
I was fortunate enough to receive two private scholarships this year: the Fred I., Edna O., and Fred J. Archibald Scholarship and the First Catholic Ladies Slovak Association Scholarship. These scholarships have given me the motivation to use this year as a real launching pad for my career in journalism. I have been able to use funds that had been previously reserved for college to pay for transportation to and from places where I conduct interviews and cover stories. This has allowed me to build my journalism portfolio with clips from local newspapers in Greenbelt, Hyattsville and Silver Spring/Takoma Park and will hopefully help me win a valuable internship position this summer.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose to attend the University of Maryland because of its prestigious journalism school, the Philip Merrill College of Journalism. As an aspiring journalist, I felt that the Philip Merrill College of Journalism would provide me with the skills and the experience gained in classes taught by experienced and successful journalists in order to achieve all of my future goals.
