What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
VP of Finance for the KOACH
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
My scholarship has enabled me to attend a school with a very strong animal science program. This should better prepare me for Veterinary school, or expose me to new experiences that will aid me to choose the best career choice for me.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I knew that I wanted to attend college out of state. The University of Maryland offered many rewards. First, I was interested in an undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences, which Maryland has. In addition, I was accepted into the College Park Scholars, Life Sciences program. From the information I was given this program appeared well designed and offered its students many chances to engage in activities outside of the classroom. Besides the academic benefits, I enjoyed the idea of being so close to Washington D.C. For the first time I could have easy access to a large city. Finally, going to a large university offered excellent athletics.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I hope to be a wildlife veterinarian. Thus far, I have worked in a zoo as well as at a wildlife rehabilitation center in South Africa. In addition to the science aspects of being an animal science major, I am interested in conservation as a whole. I hope to affect public policy or at least help teach local people how to live with and protect the environment and everything in it.
