What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
This past year, my parents have put both my sister and me through college, so every dollar counts. Starting next year, it will be just me, but even so, I'd prefer not to drain my parents' pockets. As far as what I actually did/will do with the scholarship money, it's just the right amount to cover textbooks and other expenses
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I wanted a good education that would not be a drain on my parents' financial resources. I also knew that Maryland had good math and computer science departments, which would provide the education that I was looking for. Add to that the availability of sports teams I could root for with a reasonable expectation of not being disappointed and the fact that the magnet program at my high school has connections to Maryland, and Maryland becomes the obvious choice of college.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
As mentioned in answer to another question, I am currently looking at either being a programmer or a math teacher. As a programmer, I would hope to be on the cutting edge of software design, writing innovative programs that will be easy to use and error-free, and that will directly benefit whoever uses them. As a teacher, I would hope to provide a good mathematical education for all of my students, which will stand them in good stead in whatever career they might choose.
