2 SCHOLARSHIPs AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I tranfered to the Unversity of Maryland as a junior so I have not been a student here that long. Since tranferring, I have joined Terps Racing. This had been important to me as I have an extensive background in automotive. I also volunteered at Good Neighbor Day this past spring.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
As an older student it was difficult to give up a career and return to school financially. It has been with the assistance of family and donors such as you that have made my transition from a working adult to student possible. Without help from donors I would require an excessive amount of student loans. Being able to focus on school and less on working to pay bills, I have been able to focus my time and energy towards activities like Terps Racing. This oppurtunity has lead to recieving an internship at Ford Motor Company this summer.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
Growing up in the area I always wanted to attend University of Maryland, I just didn't know what I wanted to study. After working in the automotve field for several years I figured out I wanted to learn the engineering side of the auto industry. Maryland being a top ranked engineering school I decided to work on getting in. I completed my first two years of college at Mongomery College and was accepted to the Univeristy of Maryland. My favorite part of being a Terp is sharing the bond with friends, neighbors, and family who are also Terps.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
Having an interest in renewable energy and cars I hope to apply my engineering education to create more efficient transportation. If my internship at Ford turns into a career I hope to innovate creative solutions to efficient modes of transportation.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
I am a mechanical engineering major. I am currently a junior and plan to graduate May 2018.
What is your Hometown?
I am from this area. I grew up in Adelphi and attended DeMatha Catholic High.

I have enjoyed my physics classes as they explain the way the world works around me. All engineering classes explain the way the world works but on a more specific level. Physics is a more general overview that allows me to think about applications outside of my mechanical engineering scope. This has been helpful on Terps Racing. I work on things mostly mechanical but occasionally need to come up with creative solutions to problems that don't fit a "mechanical engineering" problem.
I particiapte and volunteer at ParkRun College Park. This is a weekly free and timed 5K race. I am an avid runner and run every week. On weeks that I need rest I volunteer for one of the several positions. It is the volunteers that make the event free every week. ParkRun recently partnered with the University of Maryland for Good Neighbor Day. I volunteered for Good Neighbor Day: planted trees along the running trail and removed brush.
