What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
During the fall semester, I acted as VP of Recruitment for The Pride, UMD's official student section. This role was especially important to me as I have always been enthusiatic about cheering for sports, although I have never been particularly coordinated. As this is only the second year of The Pride's automomy, it was crucial for us to capture as much as the UMD student population as possible. I decided to focus our tactics on invovling freshman, as they will be at the university the longest. In addition, they have not yet formed tradtions for sports games, so The Pride had the strategic opportunity to be integrated into their traditions. This spring semester I am studying abroad in Madrid, and one of the hardest parts about the transition was leaving my position on The Pride's executive board. When I return to UMD, I hope to once again be involved in increasing student pride.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
Thank you so much for you generosity and continued support of R.H. Smith School students! This semester I am studying abroad at IE University in Madrid, something I could not have done without your scholarship. The experience of living in an entirely new culture has helped me become more adaptable to new environments. I feel this will translate well into the real business world, when I enter it. Without your scholarship, I would not have the means to take part in this incredible semester.

This fall I decided the healthcare industry was my primary area of interest, and as such took biology and chemistry classes in conjunction with my marketing classes. I hope this addition will make me a more competitive applicant in the future. To continue pursing my interest in healthcare, this summer I will be working with a research lab at Boston University.
In addition, I am now participating in a design program where I have learned the importance of design thinking in marketing as well as attained a general knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. This program has been the most hands-on marketing I have done in the business school, and I am excited to continue to learn through the scope of design.
