Friends and family created the Manuel Delvalle, Jr. Memorial Scholarship in December 2001 to support students in the Department of Fire Protection Engineering. This fund honors the memory of Delvalle, an alumnus and firefighter who lost his life at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
Manuel DelValle, Jr. graduated from the University of Maryland in 1992. In 1994 he joined the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY). Throughout his years of service to the New York City Fire Department, he was a dedicated firefighter and a favorite colleague. In addition to his work with the FDNY, he was an avid sports fan who was beloved by his family, friends and the lower east side community served by his firehouse, Engine Company #5. On September 11, 2001 Manuel DelValle, Jr., along with 342 fellow firefighters, died while responding to the World Trade Center.
