Donald W. Belles Scholarship

Scholarship History

Bill and Pam Koffel, fellow alumni and business associates of Donald W. Belles '63 established the Donald W. Belles Scholarship in July 2004 to provide support for undergraduate students in the Department of Fire Protection Engineering in the A. James Clark School of Engineering. This fund was established in honor of his retirement.

Donor Statement

Donald W. Belles graduated from University of Maryland in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering. Mr. Belles was a pioneer in applying fire protection engineering principles in the development of building and fire codes and their referenced standards.

As a scholarship recipient himself, Donald W. Belles valued the financial assistance he received. In 2002 Donald W. Belles retired from Koffel Associates, and in honor of his retirement Koffel Associates, Inc., and fellow alumni and business associates of Donald W. Belles, established, through the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc., an endowed fund to support undergraduate engineering students at the University of Maryland, College Park. This award will provide financial assistance for fire protection engineering students and will enhance the field of fire protection engineering.
