John F. Stacks, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship History

John F. Stacks, Sr. and Dory J. Bentos established the John F. Stacks, Jr. Memorial Scholarship in June 1988 to support incoming freshmen who have participated in or intend to pursue a degree in the performing arts and are graduates of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. This fund acts as a permanent and lasting legacy to John F. Stacks, Jr.

Donor Statement

John F. Stacks Jr. was born September 5, 1964 in Washington, DC. He was the son of John F. Stacks and Dora Jo Aungst Stacks. He attended elementary school in Winchester, MA, and Columbia and Chevy Chase, MD. He was a graduate of Leland Junior High School in Chevy Chase.

John graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1983. In high school he was a member of the track team and finished fourth in the 100 yard dash state finals his senior year. He was also a dedicated member of the theater stage crew during his high school years.

After graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Florida, he entered the University of Maryland where he was majoring in business. John died on February 1, 1988, in an automobile accident in Florida.

In June 1988 John F. Stacks and Dory J. Bentos, now Dory Stacks established an endowed fund in loving memory of their son.
