Established July 2, 1975, by Dr. Leland E. Scott, Professor Emeritus of Horticulture at the University, and Mrs. Catherine B. Scott, long-time friend and supporter of the University. The income is to be used to support one or more annual awards for graduate students in horticulture at UMCP. It is the expressed wish of the donors that the award be used for the purchase of books and/or other scholarly pursuits. Factors taken into account in making the award are to include academic standing, diligence, and potential of achievement in a horticultural career. The award may be made to a student only once.
