The Lipella Foundation has chosen to honor the memory of Marc Lipella (B.S. '04) by creating this scholarship. Marc joined the University of Maryland as a computer engineering major but found his true home in the Department of Geology, studying with Drs. Rudnick, McDonough and Ash, and also playing on the hockey team. After graduation, he worked as a research assistant at the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution and pursues his love of music as lead guitarist in the group Zen Black. Marc was a kind and friendly person who touched the lives of everyone he met. Marc tragically passed away in September 2011. His parents created the Lipella Foundation in his memory and intend to honor Marc's legacy while assisting future geologists.
