Allen Ford ’64 established the Allen Ford Endowed Engineering Scholarship in January 2013 to provide annual support for engineering students in the A. James Clark School of Engineering. Ford attended the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute where he received an education that prepared him well for the rigor of the engineering coursework in the Glenn L. Martin Institute in the College of Engineering. He was a strong student at Maryland but financial difficulties put his educational goal at risk. Through the support of professors who saw his talent, he was awarded a Western Electric scholarship through the College of Engineering which allowed him to stay in school and complete his degree in mechanical engineering in 1964. Allen Ford spent most of his career with the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Annapolis and retired from there in 1995. He also collected reproducing pianos and piano rolls.
