In memory of his father, Gregory Decker established the A. Morris Decker Memorial Scholarship Endowment in March 2011 to support undergraduates in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and to promote research in forage and cover crops.
Dr. A. Morris Decker was professor emeritus of agronomy and acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost forage specialists. Dr. Decker taught at the University of Maryland for more than 40 years after receiving his doctorate from the University. He joined the University of Maryland agronomy faculty in 1952 where he assumed responsibilities for forage management research and teaching. Throughout his career, Dr. Decker’s research dealt with a wide variety of topics, including forage establishment, forage crop improvement, forage systems for livestock programs, forage harvest management and cover crops. Dr. Decker directed the studies of scores of master’s and doctorate degree graduates and served on more than 85 additional graduate committees. Among his former students are some of the most respected forage management specialists in the United States. In memory of Dr. Decker, his son, Gregory Decker, and other family and friends have established this endowed scholarship fund.
