The Professor Richard T. Farrell Graduate Fellowship in American History was established in November 2010. Spendable Income from the Professor Richard T. Farrell Graduate Fellowship in American History is used to provide fellowships for graduate students whose academic focus is in the field of American History.
Professor Richard T. Farrell, who specialized in the history of the American West, was a faculty member in the Department of History at the University of Maryland. He served as Associate Chair of the department from 1974 until 1990 and was noted as a leader who helped launch many graduate students' scholarly careers. In addition to his exemplary departmental leadership, he was an astute and valued member of the University community and an integral member of the University Senate. The Professor Richard T. Farrell Graduate Fellowship in American History was established to honor Professor Farrell's commitment to his students and his academic field.
