Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
Initially, my decision to attend the University of Maryland was dominantly economical, seeing as I was a Maryland state student, so UM was a state school, and gave me the advantages that state schools give: lower tuition, state aid, and a general proximity to home (even if it still takes me 90 minutes in good traffic.) The thing is, that is not what made me passionate about UM. The thing that made me passionate was finding out about its accredited journalism program, which gave me the confidence to pursue a profession despite negative opinions about its instability. Even news reporters I have met have told me to keep another profession in mind, just in case. Maryland may be an enormous school, and yes, sometimes I can feel like my voice is small, but sometimes I also realize that a enormous school means an enormous amount of options, so that if one idea doesn't work for me, I always have an alternative to pursue.
