1 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
As a freshman I have not had lots of opportunities to obtain leadership positions and mostly served as a member in the clubs or organizations. The biggest volunteer experience I had was with my AB alternative break where I spent one week in Harlan, KY to learn and assist in the community while focusing on identity and environment. I have done other service but none of it has been continuous. For example I have volunteered with AMSA, American medical student association, to go to nearby schools and educate them on healthy habits to promote health to children in the neighboring communities. I have also volunteered with CHEARS and my honors program to help restore and renovate the nearby three sister gardens of greenbelt, MD.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I plan to make a difference in the world through the positivity and energy I put into my work. Either as a physician saving lives or in research working to help solve the problems of the world. I am still curious and exploring my passion but I currently plan to pursue medical school and become a practicing doctor in a field. Regardless of the field, I want to be able to make my patients live happy lives and smile knowing their doctor cares for them and is always trying his hardest to treat them. My personal experience with a surgeon that helped reconstruct my ACL is a memorable time when I was in need of help. Knowing that he knew what he was doing and explained it all to me helped me stay calm and overcome the fear of surgery. He definitely enjoys what he does and loves to make children smile. I want to be able to live in a similar style, knowing I can make a difference and make them smile and feel comfortable being treated.

Tell us about your favorite class, extracurricular activity, academic opportunity, community involvement or another unique experience.
My favorite class is computer science, at the moment. Although I am very interested in all my classes including genetics and organic chemistry. They are hard classes and I need to make sure I keep up with my studies.
My favorite extracurricular activity would probably be club swim or soccer with friends. I am actually on two club sports, swimming and tennis. I enjoy both sports but I don't attend all the practices because of the workload and meetings in the evening that conflict with the practice.
My favoirte academic opportunity would most likely be from the ILS honors program. They give me the opporunity to take classes with a small class size and improved structured classes and coursework. The professors also enjoy the topics they teach and working with bright students from ILS.
