1 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED:
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
This scholarship has meant a lot to me. Being a graduate student, I am completely financially independent and I also already have a lot of undergraduate loans on my plate. This scholarship went towards funding my graduate degree, and to me it means less loans that I will have to pay after I graduate, which I am very thankful for. While I did not get to spend it on any specific new or exciting opportunities, the entire experience of getting a Master's Degree is exciting and something I am very proud of!
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I pursued my undergraduate degree in Psychology at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. After spending four years in Maryland, I gained a new love for this state and decided that I wanted to stay here instead of return to Connecticut after graduation. University of Maryland had the graduate program I was looking for, and I also wanted to experience attending a big university since McDaniel was very small. I have really enjoyed being a part of this big campus and being a Terp. My favorite part about being a Terp is the school spirit. Everyone has so much pride for this University and you can sense the school spirit everywhere you go. I love it here!
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
As a future school counselor who will be working with K-12 students, I hope to make a difference in the world by helping as many students as possible. I will be an advocate for students, and help them with the academic, career and personal/social domains of their lives. I plan to make a difference in at least one student's life, each and every day at my job. I am passionate about helping students to my utmost ability.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
I am obtaining a Master's Degree in School Counseling. I will graduate in May, 2016.
What is your Hometown?
I am from West Hartford, Connecticut.
