What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I have been an Undergraduate Teaching Fellow the past two semesters for the ECE Department. I am proud that Professors in the ECE Department have given me the opportunity to teach other undergraduate students. However, the most fulfilling parts of being a UTF are helping students not only learn the course material, but also mentoring underclassmen in their career aspirations and getting to know students personally. I am also a board member of Eta Kappa Nu, the ECE Honor Society of UMD. I am involved in the induction process of new members, and have met many great people. I hope to stay connected with several of my HKN classmates after graduation.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
Receiving this scholarship has helped me pay for school, but more importantly, has motivated me to strive for my goals even more. I am honored to be recognized for my achievements, and will continue to represent Maryland with pride.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
To be honest, I only came to Maryland because I did not get into my top choices. However, knowing what I know now, if I had the power to go back in time and was accepted into one of my top choices, I would still come to Maryland. I truly believe that the opportunities available at Maryland are as good as any other school in the country. On top of that, going to Maryland is a much better value than many other schools. Lastly, the reason why this place is special to me is because of the people I have met here. Going through the challenging courses at Maryland have allowed me to create friendships that will last a lifetime.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I have aspirations to create my own business in the future. With my technical background, I hope to design and/or create a product that can improve quality of life. With my business background, I hope to have the entrepreneurial savviness to create a business from the ground up. As part of the Science and Global Change Scholars Program, I hope to contribute to the awareness for climate change, and create a future technology that could help the environment. I truly believe climate change is an issue of not just the environment, but of national security.

I started playing basketball in middle school, and have been perfecting my shot ever since then. My true inspiration for continually playing is Tracy McGrady, a NBA legend. His ability to dominate games with such calmness and grace inspired me to refine my own skills. I try to have the same mentality with every new aspiration I pursue. Throughout my years at UMD, I have been involved in Intramural Basketball. I formed a team with several friends, and hope to win a championship before I graduate. Teamwork makes the dreams work.
