2 SCHOLARSHIPs AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I am currently serving as the VP of Corporate Affairs for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers where I am responsible for communicating with various corporate employers who are interested in partnering with our organization. I have found this position extremely gratifying because I am directly helping SHPE members, minority students in STEM, and underrepresented engineering students have an opportunity to connect and develop their professional relationship with companies interested in our respected UMD engineering community.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
I am extremely honored to be a recipient of the Ruth and Sam Salzberg Family Endowment Scholarship where my family and I cannot be more thankful for the prestigious award. This scholarship has helped finance my higher education at the University of Maryland which has meant a great deal to me as a first generation college student from a Hispanic household.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose to attend the University of Maryland because it is my home state institution that I have admired all of my life. The world-renowned academics, campus diversity, athletic events, and school pride were all fundamental in my decision in becoming a Maryland Terp.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
As an aspiring engineer I will hope to be engaged in the development of technologies that will ultimately aid the betterment of the world that we live in. I will advocate for the next generation of engineers to participate in the opportunities available to them such as the incredible resources presented here at the A. James Clark School of Engineering.

Tell us about your favorite class, extracurricular activity, academic opportunity, community involvement or another unique experience.
The organization that has been fundamental in my academic and professional development has been the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. The SHPE UMD chapter has allowed me to engage in community outreach events such as Maryland Day and Noche de Ciencas where we visit a local school and promote STEM education to students and their parents in the Hispanic community. I am truly grateful to be a member of SHPE as the experience with the chapter will always resonate with me.
