What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I am in the Gemstone program in the Honors College. In Gemstone, each student is a part of a research team for 4 years. I am part of Team BACTERIA. We are investigating the use of enzymes to recover heavy crude oil. We hope this method is more environmentally safe than the current methods of using harsh chemicals.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
I am very thankful to receive this scholarship. I am able to pursue my passion in environmental science research.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I hope to make a positive difference in the world because I plan to pursue a career where I help track diseases using statistics and environmental science. This is very important as modern society enables diseases to spread very quickly.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
I am majoring Environmental Science & Technology: Environmental Health and minoring in Statisitics. I am currently a sophomore and plan to graduate in 2018 as part of the class of 2018.
What is your Hometown?
I grew up in Hillsdale in northern Bergen County, NJ.
Tell us about your favorite class, extracurricular activity, academic opportunity, community involvement or another unique experience.
I am really enjoying the film class I am taking this semester. It a course comparing films from different countries and looking at how different cultures affect filmmaking. I really love to watch films and view art. I hope I can continue taking more humanities classes in the future.
