SCHOLAR RESPONSES:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I am currently president of UMD's Fire Protection Engineering Honors Society, Salamander. During my time as president, I had the opportunity to plan and run the FPE career fair. Planning the fair helped build my organizational, teamwork, and leadership skills. I was also able to do a lot of networking and build relationships with potential employers.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
My scholarship has made it possible for me to focus on my schoolwork and extracurricular activities instead of working during the semester. I am an out-of-state student, so the money goes a long way to help me to pay for expensive tuition. Without the added stress and time-constraint of a job, I have been able to accept a teaching fellow position, volunteer my time to the FPE department, and maintain high grades. Scholarships like this help me to do my best and reach my full potential in school.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
My major is Fire Protection Engineering and I'm expecting to graduate this May, 2016. |
