3 SCHOLARSHIPs AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I have recently been selected as a GEMS100 Section Leader for Fall 2014. In this role, I will guide a dozen or so freshman through their first semester at the University of Maryland, intruducing them to the Gemstone Honors Program and the University in general as well.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
Receiving this scholarship has removed financial stress and strain from my family. It has given us additional breathing room as a family in a period where my parents are paying for two students' college education concurrently.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I study computer engineering out of a love and curiosity for technology. It is my goal to design and build new technologies in the future, pushing the edge of what we can do. I want to make these technologies more affordable and accessible for the whole world, not just the engineering leaders across the globe.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
Class of 2016
What is your Hometown?
I often don't feel like I have a hometown because of how often I've moved. My father has worked with the military in one form or another for my whole life, so I've lived in places as varied as Italy and Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New Mexico, and Germany and Maryland. I suppose in some ways I consider Frederick, MD as my hometown now, because I've lived here for seven years, which is almost twice as long as I've lived anywhere else! It makes being a student at the Universiy of Maryland that much more special.
Tell us about your favorite class, extracurricular activity, academic opportunity, community involvement or another unique experience.
I was recently accepted into the Combined BS/MS program at the school of Electrical and Computer Engineering! After I receive my BS in May 2016, I'll matriculate into the graduate school and receive my MS in three more semesters: by December 2017. I'm currently debating between entering the work-force at that point or pursuing a PhD. Scholarships make these choices much easier for students pushing their educational goals to the limits!
