What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I have volunteered as a tutor for the organization of Martha's Table in D.C. The children who we tutor always have something to bring to the table- I enjoy spending time with them and hopefully making a small difference in their lives, even if only for the hour I spend with them.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
By bestowing me with the scholarship, I have been alleviated of some of my debts-- every little bit helps! It helps me to breathe a little easier and to appreciate the generosity of others. I hope I can make the same kind of impact on someone at some point in my life.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
Beyond the ideal location and beautiful campus, beyond the widespread school spirit and excitement of premier athletic programs, I chose UM for the feeling I got the first time I stepped on the campus, a feeling I continue to experience every day. I can't explain it, but I knew that I would be happiest at Maryland. I completely fell in love with UM the first time I saw it. The electricity on campus and the overall contentment I feel while here is unlike anything else I have felt in my life.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
Though I am not committed to a certain career path as of yet, I believe the biggest and best way to make a difference is simply by going above and beyond in respecting those around us. One person can make a difference by volunteering in the local community or donating to local charities. I believe this is something that all people should remember- it is possible to lead an altruistic life through everyday activities. You don't have to cure AIDS or promote world peace; as long as you commit yourself to serving fellow human beings and doing everything you can, you can make more of a difference than you even realize. Basically, I'll try to do all I can in my everyday life to help others.
