4 SCHOLARSHIPs AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
In my freshman year, I held the position of Vice President of Communications for Hagerstown Hall. During this time, I worked with a team of Hall Council board members to help new students acclimate to university life.
Currently, I serve as the Events Chair for UMD's chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This semester, I have organized several group trips, including a private tour of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for ASME members.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
Receiving this scholarship has shown me that other people care about my education, thus encouraging me to work hard to be the best student I can be. This scholarship has also eased some of the financial burden of attending college, so I am now free to spend less time working and spend more time studying for classes and participating in extracurricular activities.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose to attend Maryland because of its balance of a highly regarded engineering program with an affordable education. My family's financial situation was tight when I applied to colleges, so I knew that in-state tuition was a key factor in choosing which school to attend. Thankfully, Maryland's low tuition combined with generous scholarships has made my education relatively stress free in financial terms.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
I am a senior and I will be graduating in December, 2015.
What is your Hometown?
I'm from Gaithersburg, MD.
