What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
In the summer of 2008, I attended KPMG's Fast Forward National Leadership program in Hollywood, CA. This was a three-day national leadership training program with 161 students from the U.S. and Canada.
I have also served as both the President and Vice President for the Finance, Banking, and Investment Society at the Smith School.
Currently, I am the Portfolio Manager for Marketing and External Relations in the Lemma Senbet Fund. We manage over $500,000 of the Smith School endowment fund.
I am also a volunteer teacher for the Junior Achievement program and have taught both a seventh grade and fourth grade class about business and economics at local schools.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
This scholarship has been a great reward for my efforts at the University of Maryland and helped significantly towards the payment of my tuition. It has allowed my family and I to worry less about making ends meet and given me the financial freedom to try new things.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
The University of Maryland was the ideal choice for me to receive an excellent affordable education close to home. The Robert H. Smith School of Business in particular provided me with the opportunity to study Finance and Accounting and learn from some of the best faculty members in the world. The University of Maryland also provides excellent facilities and sports teams. Overall, I knew that it would provide me with the opportunities to make the most out of my undergraduate education.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I will make a positive different in the world by applying my learning and skills to always trying to do the right thing on the job or in the community. I want to connect with a passion and find a way to help people through this passion.
