What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I am currently the Chief Information Officer (or Communications Officer) for the Residence Halls Association executive cabinet and I've served two consecutive terms as the President for the Baltimore Incentive Awards Program executive board. In addition, I've had the following leadership experiences at the University of Maryland: 1.) Hagerstown Hall (Ellicott Community) Position: Community Assistant 2.) Residence Halls Association Position: DSAB (Dining Services Advisory Board) 3.) Department of Resident Life Position: Programming Assistant 4.) Dining Services Administration Position: Assistant Director Search Committee
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
The Baltimore Incentive Awards program has given me the opportunity to extend my desire to reach for the stars. The program has been an opportunity for me to discover and establish a friendship with 8 other Baltimore students who have personalities, experiences and opinions different from my own, yet we all share same drive and passion for success.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
The University of Maryland holds a very special place in my heart. Before I visited the University of Maryland, I had no intentions of even applying to the institution. However, after visiting UM and observing the beautiful campus scene and it's massive size, I was convinced this is where I belong and no where else. I wouldn't trade my UM experience in for the world.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
Many persons I come in contact with quickly feel the 'winning attitude' and persona that my spirit beholds. I have never met a truly successful person who I would consider a 'self made' success who did not have a winning attitude. These people relate to the world on a positive basis. They always look for the 'can do', not the 'can not do' side of every situation. A winning attitude is contagious and when it is sincere, the people with whom you come in contact with will relate to you and your activities with a vitality and positive attitude that causes a winning, successful environment. Through innovation and determination I will not only change the world, but build a legacy.
