What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
My scholarship has given me the opportunity to enjoy my first year at college without having a financial burden for books and extra fees. I feel so fortunate to have been awarded the Omicron Kappa Scholarship, and am looking forward to seeking out other scholarship possibilities.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
The University of Maryland offered three very important aspects that led to my decision to attend. First, the location was fantastic. Being near the District of Columbia, one of the most historic and beautiful cities in our country, and being near my home, were all positive influences. Secondly, the Department of Theatre is well-established, has excellent faculty, and a gorgeous facility. Finally, the school spirit and energy on campus is unmatchable. Those who attend football and basketball games understand the power of the Terp. For all of these reasons, the University of Maryland was the perfect institution for my higher learning.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I was born a humanitarian. I plan on participating in the PeaceCorps, possibly attending Law School, and staying very involved in volunteer efforts for the community. My father is an advocate for children with mental health problems, and my mother is the education director at a private school for children with special needs. My sister is studying to be a developmental pediatrician, and I look forward to continuing the circle of human assistance. My acting and political career possibilities look bright, and I will indeed be a humanitarian whichever path I choose to follow.
