What leadership roles and/or volunteer experiences have you had?
-Administrative Council for Theatre (Secretary) -Kreativity--diverse theatre group (Secretary/Performer/Director) -College Park Arts Scholars (Costume Group Leader)
What is your favorite campus setting and why?
My favorite campus setting is the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.
Why is the University of Maryland special to you?
I love all of the friends that I have made here. I thought that being an out-of-state student would leave me uncomfortable and lonely but in my two years here I have found that that is not so. I just feel so comfortable here.
What has your scholarship meant to you or enabled you to do?
My scholarship shows my dedication to the theatre department that, in turn, has welcomed me and respected me with open and caring arms.
What special learning opportunities have you experienced at the university?
I have found a lot of different and new ways to express myself and a lot of leadership positions which I hope to excel in.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland?
I chose UM because it was the friendliest campus that I found in my college tours, and also the Performing Arts Center is BEAUTIFUL and the theatre program is excellent.
What is your favorite quote and why?
Live Your Life for Today, Not For Tomorrow. Something that I used to have difficulty with was living in the moment. But I have now realized that nothing will get done tomorrow if you don't accomplish what you need to today. Also, I have learned how to just breathe and let go.
Who do you admire and find is a source of inspiration to you?
I don't have a specific person but I admire anyone who goes out there and makes opportunities for themselves, even if none are available. That is what I try to do in my every day life because opportunity is not going to come looking for me--I need to go out there and find it.
What are your career plans/aspirations?
I plan to ACT, whether it be in movies, theatre, or television, I am not sure yet but that is where my heart is. Eventually I want to be a program director for an outreach program that serves inner city youth. When I am older, I want to open a community center for youth, teens, and adults.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I want to give people the opportunity to speak, to tell their stories. The worst that one could do to someone is take away their ability to tell their own stories and I want to be able to give a voice to those who've gotten it taken away from them.
