What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I started my own catering firm during the fall semester, but I unfortunately developed some complications from surgery and had to put the business on hold. However, I am pleased to say that I was able to offer my employees $10 p/hr wages and pay back all of my investors (mostly my parents and the parents of friends) in full.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
My scholarship has allowed me to emerge from college with both an undergraduate degree and a clean slate, which will put me ahead of the game for life. I hope that the benefit I receive will allow me to give back in the future, and sponsor the scholarships of other promising students some day.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose the University of Maryland because of the opportunities offered by the Honors program. I enjoy having a large number of highly skilled faculty members, as only a large university can support, and still being able to engage in small discussion groups and in-depth projects. The variety and quality of classes and faculty influenced my decision.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
First and foremost, I will treat everyone I meet, every second of every day, with dignity, respect, and courtesy. I also hope to accrue enough money to sponsor high academic achievers, especially those with financial need, to go to college. I hope that I can someday be successful enough to put a handful of children (after my own, of course), through college and thus raise the level of education and achievement in this country.
