What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I have been involved as President of the Asian Club in High Point High School, and a volunteer in soup kitchens in high school through our national honors society.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
I consider my scholarship to be an entrance ticket to my future. With this scholarship, I can be educated without any worries about its funding I can therefore live life the way I wished. I aspire to become a physiologist and am currently working towards that goal by majoring in Biology with a concentration in Physiology and Neurobiology. This scholarship also gives me a sense of responsibility and diligence, in that, if I keep my scholastic performance high, my hard work will always be met with success and rewards.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose to attend UM because it was the only school that offered me a major that I felt was for me. All of the other colleges that I was granted admission to, offered Biology majors. However, UM was the only one that offered a concentration in Physiology and Neurobiology. As soon as I saw the major in the catalog during an open house at UM, I immediately accepted their offer. I also considered it an honor to attend one of the nation's top research universities.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I definitely want to make a difference in the field I will be working in for the rest of my life, medicine and health. I strongly feel that patients in hospitals are not getting the proper nutrition in their diets during the time of their recovery. As a doctor, I will see to it that my patients get the proper energy rich diet needed for them to recover and become healthier than when they came to the hospital. This change will definitely be of advantage to the world because there is a high chance that an individual will visit a hospital at least once during his lifetime. Although this goal of mine seems a bit far fetched, I will at least stir up a movement during my career that will promote the necessity of a healthy diet.
