What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
My most important leadership role has been with Terps Racing, as the Baja Team Leader. In this role I guide a team of student engineers to build a race car that competes in a Society of Automotive Engineers Collegiate Design Competition. I have held this role since my first year at Maryland and as a result have grown personally (as a leader and engineer) and had the fortunate chance to have an impact on the way this team funcitons. I am proud of helping to establish a course that students can take while working on this project and I am looking forward to seeing the team perform well at our May 2017 international competition in Kansas.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose to attend UMD for the terrific engineering program, my invitation to the Honors College, the SAE racing program, and the size and resources of the university. Fours years after making this decision I am happier than ever with it -- UMD has been exactly the place I wanted it to be and more. The variety of resources and activities for students (scholasitc, extra-curricular, social, and more) have allowed me to make my undergraduate education a terrific experience.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I hope to work on space-systems that are in service of mankind. Whether this means working on interplanetary transportation systems, satellites that gather data looking back at our earth, or telescopes that gather data looking outwards, I don't know yet. Either way, I am looking forward to entering industry to make my contribution to this field.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
Mechanical Engineering, 7th semester of education in Spring 2017, graduating May 2018. Theses dates and class levels are not typical as I have taken time to work a co-op during an academic semester and taken non-required out-of-major classes as well.
What is your Hometown?
I am from Chevy Chase, Maryland. I attendined Bethesda-Chevy Chase Public High School, graduating in 2013.
