2 SCHOLARSHIPs AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I am currently set to volunteer for the Healthy Eating Discovery: An Annual Summer Camp Program this summer through the Nutrtion program at UMD. I am looking forward to working with children and helping them learn about how health is important and how to easily incorporate healthy foods into their daily lives.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
This scholarship has truly meant the world to me. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness a few years ago and have been battling each day since. This acknowledgement and monetary gift has been a blessing for me. I am able to focus less on my illness and the financial burden associated and more so on my future and my goals regarding my education.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
Truthfully, I chose UMD because it is near my hometown. I wanted to stay local as I attended school because I am a returning student and also work part-time. UMD has become a big part of my life though, I truly enjoy the sense of community and all the opportunities that are available to me.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I hope to extend my voice and advocacy for chronic illness. I returned to school after losing my Grandfather to a myriad of illnesses. I vowed to educate myself to help prevent others from losing a grip on their health and ultimately their life. I want to help people feel better naturally through food, as I have done for myself. Throughout the years of treating my chronic illness, I have developed a passion for food and its healing powers. I want to share that passion.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?

What is your Hometown?
Tell us about your favorite class, extracurricular activity, academic opportunity, community involvement or another unique experience.
My favorite class so far would be Organic Chemistry. It challenged me more than any other course I have taken and I did well. I worked very hard for the grade I received and it felt wonderful to pull through despite my personal drawbacks and be rewarded with good marks.
