1 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
My time as a Math Mentor for AmericaReads * AmericaCounts has been a crucial part of my time at Maryland. Since my first semester freshman year, I have been working with fourth grade students in Prince George's County's Title I schools to develop a relationship with them. Not only do I help them with their math homework, but I also show them that higher education is important and possible for anyone to achieve. By the end of each semester, I can see how I have motivated and inspired my mentees and it has definitely become an experience I will never forget.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
My scholarship has allowed me to focus on my full time internship with Adventist HealthCare. Since I am working 36 hours a week, it would be very hard for me to find a part time job to earn extra income. With this scholarship, I have been able to embrace my internship and take advantage of the opportunities presented to me; such as participating in weekend and evening activities and classes.
