1 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
One volunteer experience that is particularly important to me is the time that I have spent volunteering as a Lakeland STARs tutor. Lakeland STARs a tutoring program that matches University of Maryland students with 1st - 6th grade students from a local elementary school. Tutors meet with their tutees once a week to work on school work and show them around the Univeristy of Maryland campus. This program is a great way to give back to the College Park community and meet new people!
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
This scholarship will allow me to focus less on the financial burden of pursuing higher education and more on achieving my goals. The benevolence of my scholarship donors brings me one step closer to becoming an educator and making a difference in others’ lives, just as they have made a difference in mine.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I chose to become a teacher because my love for learning has transformed into a passion for teaching over the years. With my teaching degree, I hope to become a middle-level educator and foster a unique and inclusive learning environment for my students. I also hope to encourage all of my students to dedicate themselves to finding success in their future endeavors.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
I am a Middle School Math and Science Education major. I am graduating in Spring 2017.
What is your Hometown?
