1 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED:
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
I am so thankful for the scholarship as it helped me obtain my master's degree which is what I needed to do in order to reinstate my teaching certification in Maryland. I can now receive the Advanced Professional Certificate so I can begin teaching in the fall. I am so excited to return to the elementary level in the new role of "ESOL teacher". Looking forward to encouraging and enabling our English language learners meet their profiency levels!
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I loved my time at UMD in College Park! Because I am a native of Maryland, I felt happy to be able to attend our state universtiy as I attended Rutgers University in NJ for my undergrad degree and hadn't gone to a Maryland school before.
I believe that the through rigorous coursework and the personal relationships I developed with my professors and advisor, Dr. Martin-Beltran, I attained a high level of personal and academic growth. The College of Education at UMD will always receive my warmest regards. My favorite part of being of being a Terp is the pride I feel from graduating from such an amazing program!
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I believe teaching is the best way to make a positive difference in the world. I truly love sparking the imaginations and developing the talents of young people so that they may realize their unique talents. It is through the personal relationships I develop with all of my students that helps them want to learn more, achieve more, and in turn, want to do more in the world we share together.
