1 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
I've had a lot of really awesome opportunities through the Leadership and Community Service Learning Office. Currently, I am working to create leader-enrichment programs for students in the Leadership Studies minor. I recently returned from a semester abroad, and have also been working as an Orientation facilitator for the Maryland-in-Florence program. One of my favorite leadership experiences on this campus has been as the VP of Events for the Scholars Cup Leadership Team, where the Scholars Cup is a competition among the College Park Scholars programs.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
This scholarship has been an amazing opportunity for me. I have two younger brothers, one in college and one who is a junior in high school, so at this point in my life I am solely responsible for funding my education. Having this scholarship allowed me to be able to spend a semester abroad in Florence, Italy. Last semester was by far one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had, and probably will ever have, and I am so grateful that this scholarship played some part in allowing me to take part in that experience.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
My major is Hearing and Speech Sciences, and my minor is Leadership Studies. I'm currently a Junior and plan to graduate in May, 2018.
What is your Hometown?
My hometown is Saint James, NY.

My favorite class so far has definitely been HESI417: Advanced Leadership Seminar. It's the final class for the Leadership Studies minor, and even though it's every Friday morning from 9am-12pm, I look forward to it every week. It's the kind of class that truly fosters an atmosphere of collaboration and dialogue, and it's really enriching to be in a class where I know that every person in the class is really passionate about the study of leadership and takes the class seriously. We all work together to incorporate concepts and theories of leadership into our everyday lives, and we are all aware that there's something new to learn from each and every person in the class. My own leaderhip style has really been shaped this semester, and I'm excited to continue growing as the semester goes on and to use what I've learned in my academic and professional future.
