1 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED:
What leadership roles or volunteer experiences have been important to you during your time at Maryland?
One of my most significant leadership roles is being part of the Accounting Teaching Scholars program. I teach discussion sections of accounting, hold office hours, and mentor younger students.
What has your scholarship meant to you and how has it enabled you to pursue new and exciting opportunities?
My scholarship has really allowed me to simply focus on my education instead of worrying about financial obligations. By not having to work multiple jobs in order to support myself through school, I have been able to be more involved on campus and be involved in various student organizations.
Why did you choose to attend the University of Maryland, what makes this place special to you and what is your favorite part of being a Terp?
I chose to attend the University of Maryland for a variety of reasons. My brother attended the Smith School of Business and graduated with a degree in Finance, and I knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps. Another reason is because of what the school stands for. The whole concept of being a fearless individual really resonated with me.
What is your major, minor, class and graduation year?
I am a senior majoring in accounting. I will be graduating in May 2017 with 150 credits and CPA eligibility.
What is your Hometown?
My hometown is Panadura, Sri Lanka. I moved to the United States when I was 6, and am currently residing in the Silver Spring area.
