In memory of their son who was a 1980 graduate, Ronald and Gloria Murad created the Michael P. Murad Memorial Presidentís Scholarship in Chemical Engineering in July 2000 to support chemical engineering students under the auspices of the President's Scholarship Program.
Ronald and Gloria Murad have established the Michael P. Murad President's Scholarship in Chemical Engineering in honor of their son, Michael. Michael and his brother Matthew died in a car accident in November 1999. Michael is survived by his wife and three children, as well as his parents and brother, Stephen. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1980 with a 3.45 GPA. After graduating, Michael took a position with the Hess Oil Company at a refinery in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. He went on to join a contractor in Saudi Arabia, before returning to the U.S. and joining the Mobil Oil Company in Joliet, Illinois. Michael later transferred to Saudi Arabia again, where he excelled as a process control engineer, working on many difficult projects. "We cherished Michael and were very proud of him as a dutiful son and a wonderful person," say his parents. "We encourage recipients of this memorial scholarship to honor our son's memory by applying their best efforts, studying diligently and staying focused towards their goals," says Ronald Murad. "Then, we will be satisfied that this scholarship was well spent."
