Celebration of Scholarships
Robert and Lucille Crater Banneker/Key Scholarship

Scholarship History

In memory of her parents, Carroll Volchko established the Robert and Lucille Crater Banneker/Key Scholarship in May 1990 to provide a merit-based scholarship for a journalism major.

Donor Statement

The Robert and Lucille Crater Banneker/Key Scholarship was established in May 1990 by Carroll Volchko 54, who was director of business support services in the College of Journalism at that time. Mrs. Volchko established the scholarship to honor her parents, Robert and Lucille Crater. Robert Crater was a long-time news executive with the Scripps-Howard media group. It is fitting that the Robert and Lucille Crater Banneker/Key Scholarship provides an annual merit-based scholarship for a deserving journalism student at the University. Though Mrs. Volchko passed away in March 2002, this scholarship stands as a legacy to her commitment to her family and the University.
