Scholarship History
The Joe F. Blair Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in November 1996, through the Maryland Educational Foundation, with gifts made in memory of Joe Blair. The Fund, which honors Joe Blair's service as sports information director at the University of Maryland, was transferred to the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc. in April 2003. Spendable Income from the Joe F. Blair Memorial Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarships for members of the football, basketball or lacrosse teams in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Donor Statement
The legendary Joe Blair served as Maryland's sports information director for thirteen years before joining the Redskins. He returned to Maryland in August of 1983 where he had begun his public relations career thirty-three years before, serving as assistant sports information director with Jack Zane. Joe died November 15, 1995. This scholarship was named for Joe to memorialize the contribution he made to the betterment of the University of Maryland.
