Ryan M. Swann '06 established the Swann Endowment in March 2011 to support the annual Swann Communication Internship Award, which enables outstanding undergraduate students in the Department of Communication to participate in substantive communication internships and practicum experiences in the field of public service.
As a seasoned federal government employee, Department of Communication alumnus Ryan M. Swann í06 is acutely aware of the importance of early professional training experiences, and he consistently advocates for government internship opportunities for students. Likewise, as a veteran public servant, Mr. Swann values those who choose to enrich our community and society by pursuing careers in public service, from work in government agencies to serving the many worthwhile non-profit organizations that have a substantial impact, both locally and nationally. It is for this reason that Mr. Swann has established the Swann Endowment Fund. Through his investment in this Fund, Mr. Swann helps the Department of Communication develop a new model for supporting student internship opportunities and afford talented students with the opportunity to explore this rewarding career path. In a broader context, the award will highlight Ryan Swann and the Department of Communicationís stature as an innovative industry leader that emphasizes the importance of encouraging young communication professionals who have an interest in public service.
